On the morning of March 22, the first batch of 2014 Commencement of Postgraduate Students was held in the auditorium of Sipailou Campus. Zhuang Weigang, vice president of China Development Bank, Jiangsu Branch attended the commencement as representative of outstanding alumni. A number of teachers and students attended this commencement, including school leaders like Guo Guangyin, Yi Hong, Hu Minqiang, Zheng Jiamao, Shen Jiong, Ding Hui, Liu Hongjian; leaders of offices and departments; teachers and 424 postgraduates and their family members. The degree awarding ceremony was hosted by Hu Minqiang, our Executive Vice President.
Shen Jiong, our Vice President announced the resolution of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of Southeast University. 317 students received their doctor’s degrees, 605 received their master’s degrees, and 802 received their professional master’s degrees.
Yi Hong, President of the University, on behalf of all the students and teachers expressed congratulations to the postgraduates and extended his gratitude for the support and contributions of postgraduate students on our road to construct a high-standard research-oriented university. Yi also brough up with four pieces of advices for the postgraduates: to set up great ideals and abide by lofty characters; to be an earnest and down-to-earth person; to be willing to make progress and embrace challenges; and to protect and love their alma mater.
Zhuang Weigang shared his thoughts about dreams with the postgraduates. He encouraged them to become noble and respected SEUers under the guidance of our school motto, “pursuing excellence”. Professor Zhang Xiaosong, supervisor representative from School of Energy and Environment encouraged the students to be confident human being motivated by dreams. He hoped the students can be responsible and motivated in their future career and be persistent and grateful on the way to success. Zhang Jin, a master degree candidate from School of Economics and Management, expressed her gratitude towards Southeast University on behalf of all the postgraduates and made commitment on working hard and winning more honor for our university.
At the commencement, 112 doctoral candidates and 312 master degree candidates received their degree certificates. After the ceremony, they attended the activity held by the SEU Education Foundation and Volunteer Association and got free photos and gifts.
